The Digital Worlds Institute, which was founded as a partnership between the
UF Colleges of Fine Arts and Engineering in 2001, continues to build upon
its interdisciplinary foundations.
So far in 2009, DW's research and development projects have received
external corporate, state, federal and foundation funding. This work is
focused in two key areas: the first is integrating the Arts into Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education, which has received
several awards totaling $50,000. The second area is Health Sciences, with
projects using interactive virtual environments in therapeutic applications
including autism, post-traumatic stress disorder and reducing substance
abuse and risky behavior in under-served populations. Recent funding for
this work totals over $202,000.
